Ousseynou’s Story: Between the Sea and the Unknown
Ousseynou is a young fisherman born and raised in Dakar. His precarious livelihood is increasingly shaped by declining fish stocks and the hardships of his work. Quietly, he begins to contemplate the possibility of taking his pirogue farther out into the ocean—towards the Canary Islands. Meanwhile, his lively and energetic wife, Mbathio, lives with the quiet weight of uncertainty, never knowing if or when Ousseynou might leave without warning.
Like many fishermen who spend long stretches alone at sea, Ousseynou is taciturn and introspective. Yet he welcomed Cosmin aboard his pirogue, inviting him to join the crew for both fishing and filming sessions.
